Fat Joe is getting ready to raise his voice in Washington about health care pricing, meeting with lawmakers ahead of a concert with a cause behind it. The “Lean Back” rapper is headed to the nation’s capital next week on behalf of Power to the Patients, a nonprofit that advocates for healthcare price transparency.

Grammy-nominated musician, cultural influencer, entrepreneur, and activist Fat Joe is lending his voice to the Power to the Patients movement in a new public service announcement (PSA) focused on combating injustices and fighting for a more affordable and equitable healthcare system in America.

On Wednesday, the Coalition for Affordable Hospitals, which includes Power to the Patients, unions, and community groups, rallied in front of New York City Hall, demanding legislators hold city hospitals accountable for their rampant overcharging that burdens ordinary New Yorkers. Demonstrators called for hospital price transparency, which would allow patients and all healthcare consumers, including unions and employers, to shop for the highest quality care at the lowest possible price.

Power to the Patients, a national organization advocating for price transparency in health care, flew banners over the rally Tuesday in support of workers’ efforts. Planes pulling the signs were designed by Shepard Fairy, the artist best known for his work on the Obama “HOPE” Portrait and his famous Obey the Giant creation.
